Join Thay on tour in Korea this coming May

Plum Village Lay Delegation joining Thay and the Monastics

Korea Tour, May 1 – May 15, 2013
Feb 18, 2013

Dear Friends,

It's a great joy to announce to all of you the teaching tour of Thay and the Plum Village monastics to Korea. Our friends in Korea expressed concern that young people are turning away from Buddhism and that Buddhism in Korea no longer plays its role in helping to people to suffer less. As in Vietnam, Buddhism in Korea only attracts the older generations. Therefore, they invited Thay and the Plum Village monastics to Korea in hope of bringing a fresh cool breeze into their Buddhist tradition so that it can be more alive and can respond to the needs and mentality as well as the suffering of their people.

You are cordially invited to join Thay and the Plum Village monastics on the trip to Korea to support us in bringing concrete practices and Engaged Buddhism to Korea. From our past experiences of bringing lay practitioners from the West to Asia, your presence as practitioners inspires confidence in the local monastics and lay people in the teachings and practices offered by the Plum Village tradition. During the time in Korea, you will participate in mindfulness activities with the Plum Village monastics such as walking meditation, silent meals, visiting local temples to pay respect, mindfulness retreat, public talks, and day of mindfulness. You will have the opportunity for sightseeing and visiting ancient temples and historic sites as well. Our practice and presence in Korea will help to reach as many people and as many walks of life as possible so that the local people can come in contact with the teachings and practices that are relevant to their lives and respond to the needs and issues of our time. We are hoping to bring at least 20 lay practitioners to Korea.

If you would like to have more information on the tour, please contact Sr. Tue Nghiem via e-mail. The last day to register for Korea tour is April 15, 2013.
