Community Day of Mindfulness in Ojai

Posted by Chan Phap Ho at Mar 18, 2011 10:40 PM |
The lay and monastic community of Deer Park Monastery offered a day of mindfulness at the Ojai Foundation in Ojai. This is one of the first places where our teacher, Thay offered talks and retreats in California in the 1980s.

The local Sanghas (lay group of meditation practice in the tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh) in Southern California organize a Day of Mindfulness every quarter. This Day in Ojai was the most recent one. Around 100 friends came together in the beautiful setting of the Ojai Foundation for a day of mindfulness. We ended our walking meditation under the Teaching Tree, an ancient and solid Oak, where Thay has given many talks. The energy and space of the foundation was a wonderful embrace for us all. Br Kenley and Br Phap Ho lead the community in walking meditation, hand in hand. As they walked into the Oak grove a deer crossed our path. Thay was very present with us during this day, present moment, wonderful moment. Every month there is a Day of Mindfulness at the Ojai Foundation.

When we come together to slow down, to be quiet, to come back to ourselves, we always profit. Our happiness and peace continues to grow.

We sent energy to our friends in Japan, offered our prayer and chanted, listen here!
