Join Deer Park Monastics for four days of teachings, mindful breathing, walking in nature, total relaxation, deep listening, and dharma circle sharing surrounded by the beauty of Alaska.

Event Address: Birchwood Camp, Chugiak, Alaska
Cost: Includes all meals (vegetarian), lodging & tuition (sliding scale depending on
income). Camping $350-500. Shared Cabin w/ bunk beds: $525-650/person.
Retreat Facilitators

A Dharma teacher in the Plum Village tradition, originally from Vietnam, born in 1985, Sister Chuyen Nghiem entered monastic training in 2007 at the age of 22 and received the novice precepts on September 20, 2008, at Từ Hiếu Temple, with the Dharma name Tâm Phước Hải and the Dharma title Chân Chuyên Nghiêm. She belongs to the Cây Sen Trắng (White Lotus Tree) ordination family. She received full ordination on February 27, 2012, during the Tình Huynh Đệ (Brotherhood) Great Ordination Ceremony.

A nun in the Plum Village tradition, born in Vietnam in 1987. She entered monastic training in 2016 at the age of 29 and received the novice precepts on December 15, 2016, at The Garden of Awakening Monastery (Tu viện Vườn Ươm) with the Dharma name Tâm Diệu Hòa and the Dharma title Chân Trăng Học Chiếu (True Learning-Illuminating Moon). She belongs to the Cây Mai Vàng (Golden Apricot Tree) ordination family. She received full ordination on October 3, 2021, in the Qua Bờ (The Other Shore) Great Ordination Ceremony held at Deer Park Monastery.

A monastic in the Plum Village tradition, originally from France. Born in 1988, Brother Đạo Sơn entered monastic training in 2015 at the age of 31. He received the novice precepts on December 1, 2015, at Plum Village France with the Dharma name Deepening Practice of the Heartand the Dharma title Chân Trời Đạo Sơn. He belongs to the Cây Đan Mộc (Red Wood Tree) ordination family.

Brother Troi Minh Niệm (Br. Mindfulness) is an American monk ordained in 2020 at Deer Park Monastery. He began his journey with the Plum Village tradition in 2004 after attending a Dharma talk by Thầy with his parents at Deer Park. Brother Minh Niệm finds joy in painting, baking sourdough bread, hiking, backpacking, and savoring tea at sunrise from the new monks’ residence in Solidity Hamlet.
