In this Dharma talk given on February 8, 2026, at Deer Park Monastery, sister Kinh Nghiem reflects on Lunar New Year traditions through the lens of Plum Village practice. Drawing on Vietnamese folk stories of the Buddha’s robe banner, the kitchen gods, spring cleaning, and visiting temples, family, and teachers, the talk shows how these cultural rituals point back to a deep spiritual practice of protecting the land of the heart. With warmth and humor, the speaker invites us to raise the Buddha’s banner within ourselves, to water seeds of compassion, loving speech, and deep listening, and to clean the inner home with care and intention. The talk becomes a beautiful bridge between culture and Dharma, reminding us that the New Year is a chance to begin again, welcome freshness and beauty, and create traditions that nourish love, harmony, and understanding for future generations.
