In this warm opening talk for the three-month Rains Retreat, Brother Pháp Dung invites us to practice Vô Sự—“no business,” or being unoccupied—as a direct way to touch freedom in each moment. Drawing on Thầy’s calligraphies, the Zen lineage of Master Linji, and the everyday training of “fine manners,” he shows how mindfulness in daily life—sharing rooms, hearing the bell, eating in awareness—loosens our attachments, lightens our striving, and builds inner stability and compassion. With humor and tenderness, he encourages a “light Buddhism”: letting go of busyness, trusting natural healing, and learning to live joyfully together so we can be a steady presence for our families, communities, and the world.
