Please join us in supporting Deer Park! We were happy to receive a lot of nourishing rain this past winter, but our poor dirt road leading up the mountain had trouble handling the flowing water and has become badly eroded in some places. Now is a good time with the earth still soft and moist, so we will have a couple community work days to work on it. Please complete the RSVP so we know you are coming.
This is mostly hard, manual labor. We will be cutting the brush on the mountain side of the road, digging out the ditch there, and moving the dirt into the ruts in the road. We ask that participants please wear closed-toe shoes and to follow our dress code by wearing pants that cover your knees and sleeves that cover your shoulders. If you have them, please bring work gloves, safety glasses, earplugs, and a facemask for dust, as well as any shovels, picks, and wheelbarrows you may have at home.
We will be working outdoors, so please bring a water bottle and a sunhat. We will take a long break in the heat of the day after lunch.
If you would like to participate but would prefer lighter work, we would love to have your help with chopping vegetables for the Day of Mindfulness.
Kindly plan to arrive by 9 AM. The monastery will provide lunch. The work day will end in the late afternoon around 5 pm.
