How to Live when a Loved One Dies: A Day of Mindfulness

How to Live when a Loved One Dies: A Day of Mindfulness

January 9 @ 9:00 am 2:00 pm PST

This event is In-Person and requires advance registration.

Please join us for our weekly Day of Mindfulness. We love offering the dharma to friends who are able to physically visit Deer Park and we offer such activities as walking meditation, a dharma talk, and dharma sharing or a special ceremony. These events usually fill up due to limited space, so be sure to register in advance so you can attend. And if your circumstances change, please cancel your reservation so others may take advantage of the Great Hidden Mountain. If you have questions, please post a comment below.

The theme for our 90-Day Retreat is Non-Fear and Non-Anxiety.

Please register by 8 AM on the day of the event. If you need to cancel, please click the link for “View and Manage your order online” in the confirmation email you receive.

Our hope is to enjoy this time together in a way that keeps everyone healthy. For admittance, please be prepared to share your CDC card upon arrival showing complete COVID-19 vaccination. This means that at least 2 weeks will have passed between your second vaccination shot (if you received the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine) or your single vaccination shot (if you received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine) and the day you are scheduled to attend.

We ask for your understanding when we say that if you cannot provide a record of complete vaccination, you will not be allowed to enter the monastery. This requirement applies to every person who wishes to attend, regardless of age. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

In addition, we now require that you bring a face mask. Masks are required at all indoor activities, including listening to the Dharma talk, attending the recitation ceremony, and using the public restroom.

In addition, we ask that all guests please observe our dress code: out of respect for our monastic brothers and sisters, please wear sleeves that cover the shoulders (short sleeves are acceptable), shirts that cover the midriff, and long pants or long skirts that are loose-fitting and cover the knees at all times. Please do not wear shorts, tank tops, nor tight-fitting clothing. We kindly ask friends to dress modestly for the duration of their time with us and to share this information with anyone attending the event with you.

To support the energy of serenity for the day, our monastery gate will open to receive guests at 8:00 AM and will close at 10:00 AM. The event will end at 2:00 PM.

There is no cost incurred for participation in the Day of Mindfulness, but a donation is greatly appreciated to keep the monastery open and able to receive guests. You will find donation boxes in the meditation and dining halls or you can donate online.

Scheduled events occur rain or shine.

  1. Hello,
Twice I clicked to reserve 2 spots for mindfulness day Jan 9. Evenbrite appeared then disappeared on screen. Never got to put my name in. I clicked back and it took me again to reserve button. Tried again but evenbrite would disappear before being able to put in name for reservations.
Please let me know if this is normal. Will I get an email to attend or is this a technology glitch?
Greatly want to attend, please clarify or help.
    Thank you,

  2. Hello Dear Friends, My spouse and I would like to attend the January 9 Day of Mindfulness but it appears online registration is full. Is there a waiting list? I am an OI aspirant with the Little Doves of Peace sangha in Vista. Thank you.

    • Hello friend. There is not an open waiting list for this event. However, you can keep checking the page and when people cancel then a registration slot will re-open.
