We ask for your understanding when we say that if you cannot provide a record of complete vaccination, you will not be allowed to enter the monastery. This requirement applies to every person who wishes to attend, regardless of age. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
In addition, we now require that you bring a face mask. Masks are required at all indoor activities, including listening to the Dharma talk, attending the recitation ceremony, and using the public restroom.

Please have the zoom phone-in password added to the plum village memorial info for those of us with either limited internet acres or limited data on our devices. It is the only way my family will be able to participate ( by calling in to zoom).
Putting it on the deer park pages would also be helpful. Thank you.
At this time, we don’t plan to use Zoom. However, we will consult with the elders.
Could you please post the “Memorial Pin” in the website officially if it’s possible? We’re heartedly wishing to wear it during Thay’s ceremony. Thank You! 🙏🙏
You catch a photo of it on our twitter, Facebook, or instagram account.
Thanks for the heads up about the photos, but I hope there is a plan to post an image that can be used to create a memorial pin. The photos are at an angle, so not ideal. Thanks for considering providing that along with the many wonderful resources on the memorial pages.
We will do what we can. thank you for the suggestion.
If we attend the readings of the Five Mindfulness Trainings and Fourteen Mindfulness Trainings in person during this retreat week, does that count as *officially* receiving the trainings? If not, what is necessary in order to officially receive them? Thank you.
We are happy that you will join us. These two ceremonies are “recitation” rather than “transmission” ceremonies. In order to receive the Five Mindfulness Trainings, we usually transmit them during one of our retreats. And the Fourteen are received after years of study and practice.
If we wish to visit the monastery and have received both vaccination shots but not yet the booster, will we still be allowed on the grounds (with mask)? Or is booster required?
The booster is preferred, especially if you are eligible, but if it’s only for the day then it’s okay.
I was fully vaccinated last year but I have not received a booster shot. Am I still able to enter the monastery?
The booster is preferred, especially if you are eligible, but if it’s only for the day then it’s okay.
May I camp in my truck camper?
It’s possible. Please work with our registration office.
Hello,
Is it ok to visit for part of the day this week, for example to arrive at 5:00 am, sit with the group, and then depart at 6:45 am or another time after that without staying for the duration of the day? I would like to visit Deer Park sometime this week, but I am unable to commit to an entire day.
Thank you.
Yes, that’s good. You don’t need to stay all day. Gate opens at 5am.
Can you clarify when, California time that Thay’s Cremation Ceremony will be held? I work the weekends and if I have a specific time I can request off. thank you.
We will hold our Cremation Ceremony at 3:30pm on Friday. This may or may not coincide with the actual cremation in Vietnam.
we plan on visiting tomorrow, wednesday 1/26. will the gift shop be open at any point during the day? thank you.
In order for the monastics to fully participate this week, the bookshop will not be open.
I would like to know if the monastics open this weekend 01/30/2022. Thank you.
Please contact our Registration Office at office@deerparkmonastery.org
Dear Sisters and Brothers at Deer Park Monastery,
Thank you for sharing your practices and ceremonies for Thay on youtube. It’s wonderful to be together while apart.
I was wondering if you will read Thay’s letter dated November 2020 titled “Together we climb the century hill”?
Br Phap An read it in Vietnamese at Hue and it would be lovely to hear it in English.
A lotus for you,
Kim
Thank you for the suggestion Kim. I’m sure it’s a lovely letter. This week we only have two spots for the letter practice and that is complete now.
Ok, thank you for such a fast reply, Chân Niệm Hỷ. I understand it was one of the last letters from Thay to the community and is included in the 280 page Memorial Book (in Vietnamese). Perhaps an English translation, or live reading, is on its way from another Plum Village Monastery or website. A lotus for you.
Yes, we/I have a copy of the letter in Vietnamese. There is some talk of having this translated into English and into other languages. If I get a good copy, then we can post it on the Deer Park website and share with others.
Ok, wonderful, thank you. I’ll keep an eye out. 🙂 Take care.
You’re the best! Thanks for your diligence is maintaining the website/comment section!
I am planning to visit today in the afternoon, from 12:30 until 4pm. I see that there are no events on the schedule after lunch until dinner. Is it okay to walk the grounds, meditate and pray independently?
Yes, of course. The afternoon is free for personal practice. And we do have sitting at 7pm too.
If I don’t have any prior experience with in-person group practices of Plum Village, are there any parts of the remaining schedule that I would be able to join in more easily in-person? I want to honor Thay with the community, but also don’t want to take up too much space or disrupt anything. If joining via YouTube is my best route I totally understand, thanks for your guidance.
The request about experienced Plum Village practitioner is a request of the Monks and nuns of Deer Park. We ask that you honor Thầy from your home.
