DonateIn honor of Thầy’s 100th Continuation Day, Tricycle has gathered heartfelt reflections from students and friends whose lives were touched by his presence, teachings, and vision for an engaged Buddhism rooted in mindfulness, compassion, and community.
We are especially grateful to see reflections from our own Sister Đăng Nghiêm and Brother Pháp Lưu, who share how Thầy’s love and teachings continue through the daily life of our Sangha here at Deer Park, as well as Sister Định Nghiêm, who recalls growing up within the Plum Village community and witnessing the quiet, revolutionary ways Thầy reshaped Buddhist community life. Deer Park is woven throughout these memories, from our founding in 2000 to the historic 2004 retreat for people of color and the many new Dharma doors continuing to open today.
As Sister Đăng Nghiêm beautifully shares:
“We are Thầy’s continuation, and Thầy’s mind of love continues to shine our path.”
And Sister Định Nghiêm reflects:
“He created new ways for everyone to practice, bloom, and serve together in harmony.”
Lastly, Brother Pháp Lưu shares:
“Young Westerners and diaspora Vietnamese alike were drawn to his gentle presence and combination of mindfulness practice and engaged Buddhist peace activism."
We invite you to read these beautiful reflections and remember the many ways Thầy continues in each of us.

From time to time we offer multi-week courses related to mindfulness, the teachings and life of Thich Nhat Hanh, and a variety of similar subjects. Please see our schedule of upcoming courses.

Take the Deer Park Monastery and Plum Village community with you wherever you go. The Plum Village app is designed to cultivate mindfulness, compassion, and joy through guided meditations, deep relaxations, practice poems, bells of mindfulness, and other practices — all through a mobile device.
