DonatePeter Kuhn (True Ocean of Joy) lives in San Diego. He is a musician, a Dharma teacher in Thich Nhat Hanh’s Plum Village Zen tradition, and the author of 12 Step Zen: Pathways of Recovery (Parallax Press). Active in 12 Step recovery since 1986, Peter is committed to compassionate service. He has offered bedside support to dying veterans at his local VA and spent more than a decade doing prison Dharma work at Donovan State Prison.
Peter founded the 12 Step Zen Sangha, an online community exploring the intersection of recovery and the Buddhadharma, and continues to facilitate its twice-weekly meetings. With candor, authenticity, and humor, he draws on his experience of transforming personal trauma into a path of service, compassion, and joy. He practices with the Open Heart Sangha of San Diego and the 12 Step Zen Sangha.

From time to time we offer multi-week courses related to mindfulness, the teachings and life of Thich Nhat Hanh, and a variety of similar subjects. Please see our schedule of upcoming courses.

Take the Deer Park Monastery and Plum Village community with you wherever you go. The Plum Village app is designed to cultivate mindfulness, compassion, and joy through guided meditations, deep relaxations, practice poems, bells of mindfulness, and other practices — all through a mobile device.
