You and your family are warmly invited to join us for The Sun My Heart Retreat, held August 9–15, 2026 at the YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park, Colorado.
During this retreat, mindfulness communities and friends from across North America gather to practice the teachings of Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh in the Plum Village tradition of Engaged Buddhism and build a beloved community.
Hosted by monastics from Plum Village and the three U.S. practice centers—Deer Park Monastery, Blue Cliff Monastery, and Magnolia Grove—this precious retreat offers us a chance to restore our connection to nature and cultivate transformational healing in ourselves, in our relationships, and in the world.
For over a decade, Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh (Thay) came to the YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park to offer mindfulness retreats for thousands. In 2007, Thay specifically asked the monastic community to continue offering retreats in this sacred place, even if he could no longer be physically present.
In 2024, we hosted the “Earth Our True Nature” retreat for over 400 friends to keep this tradition alive. Now we return two years later to walk in Thay’s footsteps once more in the Rockies.
This retreat will include:
This retreat is open to all who seek healing, reconnection, and presence. Whether you are a climate activist, educator, healthcare professional, social service worker, or simply someone passionate about cultivating peace, you are warmly welcome.
Join the Plum Village community as we journey together into restoration, connection, and joy—rediscovering the sun in our own hearts.

Thay reminded us often of the profound impact our food choices have on the planet and on all living beings. In 2004 he encouraged the community to move toward organic food, and in 2007 he requested that all Plum Village retreats serve vegan meals.
Honoring Thay’s vision, all meals at this retreat will be 100% organic and 100% vegan. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included.
Please consider adding a donation to your retreat fee. Your contribution allows more monastics to travel to the venue and supports scholarships for those in financial need to attend the retreat.
Scholarships are available according to the donations we receive. You may discount 25% from the standard rate directly on the registration form if you need financial support, in the spirit of a sliding scale. To apply for a 50% scholarship, we ask you to write us a letter via email describing your financial situation and aspiration to attend this retreat. The organizing team will consider your request in light of donations which have been received from donors.

Families are at the heart of our community. Special programs will be offered for:
This retreat is designed to nourish the whole family. Various accommodation options are available, and all youth under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Parents of toddlers must self-organize childcare, as no program is offered for children under six.

From time to time we offer multi-week courses related to mindfulness, the teachings and life of Thich Nhat Hanh, and a variety of similar subjects. Please see our schedule of upcoming courses.

Take the Deer Park Monastery and Plum Village community with you wherever you go. The Plum Village app is designed to cultivate mindfulness, compassion, and joy through guided meditations, deep relaxations, practice poems, bells of mindfulness, and other practices — all through a mobile device.
