Rains Retreat Opening: A Day of Mindfulness
October 22, 2023 @ 9:00 am – 2:00 pm PDT
Join us for this very special day of practice. We will participate in walking meditation, listen to a Dharma talk by Thay Phap Dung, and then hold a special ceremony to open the annual 3-month Rains Retreat. Advance registration requested.
This event is In-Person and requires advance registration (at the bottom of the page). If you are not able to join us, the Dharma talk will be live streamed (see Calendar of Online Events for details)
Important Information
If you need to cancel, please use our contact page to email us and let us know as soon as possible, so that other folks have the chance to attend.
We ask that all guests please observe our dress code: out of respect for our monastic brothers and sisters, please wear sleeves that cover the shoulders (short sleeves are acceptable), shirts that cover the midriff, and long pants or long skirts that are loose-fitting and cover the knees at all times. Please do not wear shorts, tank tops, nor tight-fitting clothing. We kindly ask friends to dress modestly for the duration of their time with us and to share this information with anyone attending the event with you.
There is no cost incurred for participation in the Day of Mindfulness, but a donation is greatly appreciated to keep the monastery open and able to receive guests. You will find donation boxes in the meditation and dining halls or you can donate online.

11:30 AM – Face-to-Face Ceremony to open the 90-Day Rains Retreat

2:00 PM – Day of Mindfulness concludes

Yes, a service dog is welcome if trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability, including a physical, sensory, psychiatric, intellectual, or other mental disability.
Brother Joy, does this mean that there is a children’s program on this day? And can you remind me of the lower age limit for the children’s program?
We won’t have a children’s program in this day. And the age is usually 6+
Are wheelchairs or walkers allowed please?
Yes, of course. Many people need them to get around more easily.

We don’t maintain a waitlist for the day of mindfulness. However, we usually receive cancellations on the Friday and Saturday preceding the event. Please check back then.
